How to Get a Friendly Username for Your Facebook Page
If you run a rental business and have a Facebook page, chances are your page URL looks something like facebook.com/pages/MyBusiness/1234567890 — a long, forgettable link that’s hard to share. The good news: Facebook lets you claim a custom username (also called a vanity URL), turning that ugly link into something like facebook.com/MyBusiness.
Here is a step-by-step guide to do it.
Why Does This Matter?
A clean URL like facebook.com/AlquilameBikes is:
- Easier to share on business cards, flyers, and invoices
- More trustworthy to potential clients
- Better for SEO — search engines pick up your page name
- Memorable — people can type it directly into the browser
Requirements Before You Start
Before claiming a username, make sure your page meets these conditions:
- You are the admin of the Facebook page.
- The page has been published (not in draft mode).
- Your personal Facebook profile is in good standing (not restricted or disabled).
- The username you want is not already taken by another page or profile.
Facebook used to require at least 25 followers before allowing a custom username, but this restriction has been lifted for most accounts. You can try right away.
Step 1 — Log In with Your Personal Profile
Facebook pages are managed through a personal (or professional) profile. Make sure you are logged into the personal account that has admin access to the page.
If you do not have a personal profile yet, create one at facebook.com. Your personal profile is your identity on Facebook — it is what connects you to the page.
Step 2 — Go to Your Facebook Page
From your home feed, click on Pages in the left menu (or tap the menu icon on mobile and select Pages). Find the page you manage and open it.
Step 3 — Open Page Settings
Once you are on your page:
- Click Manage (top right area of the page, or the three-dot menu).
- Select Settings from the dropdown.
- In the left sidebar, click General Settings (or just General).
Step 4 — Find the Username Field
Scroll down inside General Settings until you find the Username section. It will show your current username (or say “No username set” if you have not claimed one yet).
Click Edit next to the Username field.
Step 5 — Choose Your Username
Type the username you want. Keep in mind:
-
Use only letters, numbers, and periods (
.). No spaces or special characters. - It must be at least 5 characters long.
-
It is not case-sensitive —
MyBusinessandmybusinessare the same. - Make it match your brand name as closely as possible.
Good examples:
-
AlquilameBicicletas -
SillasYMesasMx -
RentalBikesGDL
Step 6 — Check Availability and Save
After typing your desired username, Facebook will immediately tell you if it is available (green checkmark) or taken (red X).
If it is available:
- Click Save Changes.
- Facebook may ask you to confirm. Click Confirm.
Your page URL is now facebook.com/YourUsername — done!
Step 7 — Share Your New URL
Now that you have a clean, friendly URL:
- Add it to your business cards and flyers
- Include it in your email signature
- Add a link to it from your Alquilame storefront
- Post it in WhatsApp groups and local community boards
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| Username already taken |
Try adding your city or niche (e.g., BikesBajaGDL) |
| No option to set username | Make sure you are in the page settings, not your personal profile settings |
| Save button is grayed out | Your account may be new or restricted — wait a few days and try again |
| Username changed but old URL still works | Old URLs redirect automatically — no action needed |
One More Tip: Keep It Consistent
Use the same username across all platforms: Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp Business, and your website. Consistency makes your brand instantly recognizable and much easier to find.
